A CONSIDERED PROCESS
Understand the process before you decide.
An initial discussion does not require giving anyone your company’s records. Each stage tests business fit, ownership rights and genuine buyer interest. You can assess actual terms before approving further steps.
THE EVALUATION FRAMEWORK
Six stages. Every step is conditional.
Six stages to understand the business, examine the constraints, and consider whether an actual opportunity is worth pursuing.
CONTEXT
Understand the business
Start with a high-level view of systems and records.
REVIEW
Establish the boundaries
Check rights, restrictions, and buyer-specific requirements.
DECISION
Proceed only by agreement
Review any real offer and decide whether to approve the next step.
This is an evaluation framework, not a promise of progression. Offers, licensing terms, transfer requirements, acceptance, and any payment depend on the actual opportunity and signed agreements. Buyer interest and timelines are not guaranteed.
01
Discovery
Discuss the company’s systems, history, business operations, and objectives.
02
Data Readiness
Map high-level data categories, years of history, approximate volumes, and data sources. No raw files are needed for an initial review.
03
Rights and Restrictions
Identify ownership, confidentiality, third-party restrictions, personal information, consent requirements, and exclusions.
04
Opportunity Review
Determine whether potential commercial buyers may be interested, subject to the applicable intermediary and buyer process.
05
Written Terms and Approval
A business reviews any actual offer, permitted uses, financial terms, exclusivity, retention requirements, and buyer identity before deciding whether to proceed.
06
Delivery and Acceptance
If approved, data preparation, protections, transfers, acceptance, and any payment take place under the signed agreements and buyer-specific requirements.
